“In our in vitro model of rat cardiomyocytes, pre-treatment with PKX-001 substantially increased cell survival under stress conditions (exposure to the lipotoxic fatty acid, palmitate and the anthracycline class of drug, doxorubicin). The mechanism of PKX-001 protective activity may in part be explained by its inhibitory effect on cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in the apoptotic signaling pathway.
